Welton Rashford Johnson

Mr. Welton Rashford Johnson was born in Hanover, Jamaica, on January 1, 1939, to the late Hugh Johnson and Geraldine McKenzie. He received his early education in Askenish, Jamaica, where he laid the foundation for a life of hard work and determination. He later went on to learn the trade of masonry and worked in that field for several years. In the early 1960s, Welton made the courageous decision to leave his homeland in search of better opportunities in the United States. He began working in the farming industry in Florida and then in Indiana, before finally settling down in Clifton, NJ. There, he established a home and brought over his loving wife, Lorna, and their son Courtney (also known as Barry). Together, they built a new life in America and later welcomed 2 more children, Steve and Jennifer. He continued to work different jobs in the industrial field before finally earning a supervisor position at a lamination company in Clifton, NJ, called Delatex Processing, where he worked until retirement in 2004. After retirement, Welton was able to enjoy his family and his life full-time. They purchased a gorgeous retirement home in Miramar, Florida, where they spent many years enjoying the fruits of their labor, as well as the sunshine and beaches. He was also a pillar in his church community. He attended church every Sunday at St John’s Episcopal Church in Passaic, NJ, where he served as an usher proudly for many years. Anyone who knew him would tell you that Welton was a true diamond in the rough. His kindness, generosity, genuineness, and selflessness were characteristics that embodied the person that he was. The consistency of his character was one of the most endearing traits about him. You could always depend on him to be supportive and loving, and to be the provider of stability that our family thrived upon. He was predeceased by his wife, Lorna Johnson, and brother, Louis (Teddy) Carter, of Kingston, Jamaica. Welton leaves behind a legacy cherished by many: his sister, Joyce Gale of London, England; 2 sons, Courtney (Barry) Johnson of FL, and Steve Johnson (daughter-in-law Evaruth Johnson) of Pleasant Hill, CA; one daughter, Jennifer Rouse (fiancé Evens Aristilde) of Maplewood, NJ; his brother-in-law, Aston Rose (and wife Claudette Rose) of Pembrooke Pines, FL, and sister-in-law Marlene Harvey of Norcross, GA; 6 grandchildren, Brittany Winters (husband Michah Winters), Aaron Johnson, Ash Rouse, Cardell (CJ) Rouse, Kendric Rouse, and Samara Johnson; two great grandchildren, Serene and Bryce Winters; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
