Ethel Barber

Ethel Barber returned to Gods loving arms on January 18, 2021 in Orange NJ Sister Ethel (Johnson) Barber was born in Camden, South Carolina on April 23, 1924. She had two sisters, and one brother, all of whom have predeceased her. Sister Barber and her family moved to Paterson, NJ when she was five years old. She attended Eastside High School for a few years before she went to work to help support her family. She always loved to cook, and spent many years working as a cook for several families. Sister Barber married Theodore Barber and they were married for 42 years, until his passing in 1990. Sister Barber was blessed with one daughter, Carol James, who was extremely dedicated to her mother. Sister Barber joined New Christian Missionary Baptist Church on August 15, 1937, at the age of 13. She was a Deaconess and active in the Church Sunday School. She also served on the Church Choir, on the Missionary Committee, the Florist Committee, the Cooking Committee, the Scholarship Committee and served the church in many other ways. Sister Barber is survived by her daughter Carol, nieces, nephews, cousins, church members and friends. She was a member and Deaconess of New Christian Missionary Church for approx 80 years.
