Ernest Haygood Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Ernest Haygood Jr. was born son of the late Ernest Haygood Sr. and Thelma Haygood in Newark, New Jersey. He persevered through the common trial and tribulations of an young Afro-American youth and started his high school education at Barringer High School in 1954. He continued his education by attending Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. This is where he joined a brotherhood of young men in the prestigious fraternity of Omega Psi Phi Inc. and also receiving his Bachelor of Science. After completing Central State University, he served his country as solider in the U.S. Army and received an Honorable Discharge. As a profession Ernest chose the field of criminal justice as an probation officer which started for him in the East Orange court house in which transcended to the position of Senior Probation officer for Essex County. During this era as a probation officer he met the late Ruby Neil McKenzie, in which whom would soon after became Ruby Neil Haygood. From this union came forth two sons, Brian Omar Haygood and Kyle Devin Haygood. Fiends that became brothers and sisters to him, whether with in the workplace or his hang out spot, Jack’s Lounge. Ernie loved to travel whether if it was a quiet weekend in New Gretna, New Jersey with his good friend James (Jim Bo) Morton, revisiting his alma mater Central State University for homecoming or a simple drive to New York City. His best recognition in life was being loving husband, an amazing father and exceptional Even though Ernie didn’t have any siblings, through out the years he acquired a host of loving friends.
