Annie Mae "Miss Ann" Thomas

Annie Mae Thomas was born on May 12, 1942 in Lacrosse, County of Mecklenburg VA. She was the youngest of nine children born to George Thomas and Bessie Thomas. She attended East End High School in South Hill, VA. Annie Mae Thomas accepted Christ at an early age in her life and as a result she became a member of The Bible Tabernacle Church, located in Passaic, NJ years ago after moving to Passaic, NJ. After arriving in Passaic, NJ in the 1970’s, she attended Sawyer Business School where she received her certification in business. She went on to work for Rutgers University Cook College for over 13 years as a Certified Nutritionist, where she taught nutrition. She also taught nutrition in her neighborhood to many children and adults who resided at Speer Village Projects. Annie Mae Thomas in her mid-career held various jobs where her work within the community was exceptional. She worked for Citizens Action in Paterson, NJ where she assisted families with various outreach programs offered by the city of Paterson. At the end of her career she worked as a Sales Associate for Macy’s at Garden State Plaza Mall. Shortly thereafter she retired from Macy’s. After her retirement she became very active as an advocate for Grandparents rights. She became a member of the GAP program which stands for Grandparents as Parents program. She received several certificates for her contributions as an active member advocating this agenda. Above all Annie Mae Thomas was a devout Christian who walked, talked and breathed the word of God to whomever she met. Because of this gift she became a missionary and throughout her life prayed and ministered for many people: family and friends alike about the word of God. She was a devoted Christian, Sister, Mother and Grandmother. She enjoyed listening to the word of God, reading about the word of God and mostly talking about the word of God. Annie Mae Thomas was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 30th 2016. She will be missed by all who ever had the privilege to know her. Annie Mae Thomas leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Navondi Vaughn and Bridget D. Thomas. Unfortunately, Annie Mae Thomas was predeceased by her oldest daughter Cheryl Darlene Armstead a few years ago. She also leaves a son; Ricky N. Thomas, sisters; Virginia Thomas Peaks, Leona Jane Peaks and Catherine Thomas, eight Grandchildren one Great Grandchild; nieces and nephews and a host of beloved relative and friends.
